Happy November, everyone!
This month always reminds me how lucky we are to be part of such a supportive school community. A huge thank you to our amazing PTO for hosting an outstanding fundraiser to support our teachers and classrooms. Your generosity has a direct impact on our students every single day, and we couldn’t do it without you.
We’re also so grateful for everyone who helped with our annual food drive. Watching our students and families come together to help others is such a powerful reminder of the kindness that fills our halls. In this time of great uncertainty, it brings tremendous peace of mind to ensure that all our students have food on the weekends.
This month’s challenge is all about independence! Encourage your child to either master tying their shoes or memorize a parent’s phone number. These small skills build confidence, and confidence in turn builds resilience. Research shows that when children experience manageable challenges and succeed, they develop stronger problem-solving skills, persistence, and self-belief. In short, our kids can do hard things; we just have to get out of their way and let them shine!
Another helpful focus this month is practicing gratitude at home. Ask your child to name one thing or person they’re thankful for each day, maybe at dinner, bedtime, or in the car on the way to school. Helping children notice the good around them strengthens empathy and optimism, two key ingredients for resilience and emotional health.
Wishing you all a joyful and thankful November filled with family, gratitude, and maybe a few too many slices of pie.
With Gratitude,
Libby McNamara
