Dear West Elementary Families,
Can you believe it? May is here, and just like that, we’re heading into the final stretch of the school year! Around here, we’re feeling a lot like Ted Lasso…full of heart, a little tired, but always believing in our kids 💙
First and foremost: thank you. Truly. Thank you for sharing your children with us this year. It has been an absolute joy to watch them grow. From the first day of school to now, the difference is incredible. They’ve grown as readers, mathematicians, problem-solvers, and kind humans, and we couldn’t be prouder.
Look How Far They’ve Come! 🎉
Take a moment with your child to reflect on this year. Celebrate the big wins and the small ones, too, because they all matter. Confidence has grown, friendships have deepened, and perseverance has taken root. (As Ted would say, “Be curious, not judgmental.” We’ve seen a lot of that curiosity this year!)
Finish Strong
These last few weeks matter, and we’re ready to finish the game strong! A few simple ways you can help at home:
Keep those bedtimes consistent (sleepy kids ≠ focused learners!)
Stick to morning routines: predictability helps kids feel confident
Encourage your child to stay engaged and give their best effort
Offer lots of encouragement and high-fives...they’ve earned it!
Avoid the Summer Slide (But Keep the Fun!) ☀️📚
We want students to come back in the fall ready to jump right in! Here are some easy, low-stress ways to keep learning going:
Read a little every day (books, magazines, menus...anything counts!)
Sneak math into real life (cooking, shopping, road trips)
Keep a journal, write letters, or make lists. Writing can be fun!
Visit the library and join the summer reading program
Play games, explore outside, ask questions. Learning doesn’t have to look like school!
As we wrap up the year, we’ll be celebrating all the growth, laughter, and learning that’s taken place. We are so grateful for your partnership and the trust you place in us each day.
In the words of Coach Lasso: “Believe.”
We believe in your kids, and we are so thankful we got to be part of their story this year.
With gratitude (and a big end-of-year smile),
Libby McNamara
