Dear West Elementary Families,
Happy November! We will discuss gratitude throughout the month, which seems fitting after our PTO's annual fall fundraiser. I’ve said it a few times, but it bears repeating: Our community is amazing, and we could not do it without your support.
This month, we encourage our students to reflect on the many people, experiences, and opportunities they are thankful for. We invite you to join us in fostering a spirit of gratitude at home and throughout your daily routines.
Here are some simple, meaningful ways to practice gratitude with your child:
Gratitude Journals: Set aside a few minutes each day for your child to write or draw something they are thankful for. It can be as simple as a kind friend, a delicious meal, or a warm sunny day. Reflecting on these moments helps children recognize and appreciate the good around them.
Thank-You Notes: Encourage your child to write thank-you notes to people who have made a difference in their life, such as a teacher, coach, or family member. A simple note of appreciation can brighten someone’s day and remind your child of the joy of giving thanks.
Gratitude Conversations: Take turns sharing what you are grateful for that day during dinner or bedtime. This habit creates meaningful connections and allows everyone to listen and reflect.
Acts of Kindness: Practicing gratitude often inspires kindness. Brainstorm small acts of service your child can do for others, like holding the door open, sharing a toy, or helping a neighbor. Noticing how these acts make a positive impact encourages a grateful outlook.
Thankful Crafts: Work on a gratitude-themed craft together, like a “thankful tree,” where each leaf contains something your family is grateful for. Projects like this make gratitude a fun, visual experience.
Another way that parents can show gratitude is by dropping a quick note here so that we can celebrate all staff members from your perspective! We appreciate knowing what you see and how it makes your family feel.
Thank you for being an essential part of our school community. We are grateful for your support and partnership as we nurture and inspire our young learners.
My challenge for our students this month is to read daily for fun! You can visit our public library and select some books to enjoy. How many books could our school read if we put our minds to it?
Wishing you a wonderful November filled with moments of joy and thankfulness,
Libby McNamara
