It's time to wrap up our Fall Sports and Transition into our Winter Sports

Many of our students are multi-sport athletes. As one season ends another one is anxiously awaiting the transition of those players so they can get serious about their team and fully prepare for the upcoming competition. Our Athletes DO NOT STOP! Even if they concentrate on one sport they are busy in the off season with our incredible strength and conditioning team. We are proud of our 2024 Fall Sports and all their accomplishments and look forward to watching our Winter sports enter the game!

Softball:

We had another winning season.  We finished the year 22-11-1.  Our season ended in the regional finals against Choctaw, who would go on to be state runner-up.  As a team our power numbers were up.  We hit more doubles, triples, and home runs this year than in the past few years.  Thank you Bixby Strength!  After the end of the season Sarah Barbee, Shay Barbee, Kenzie Howard, and Heidi Gruenwald were all named to the 6A-4 All District team w/ Emerson Friedrichsen, Brynlee Hopkins, and Kynlee Dilibero being named honorable mention.

Congratulations - 6A Academic State Champs

Although it was not the season we had expected or had hoped for, there were a lot of great moments for us this year. Attending team camp for the first time under my reign as Head Coach was a big deal for the girls and the program. It allowed us to come closer together as a unit and build bonds and memories that will last a lifetime. Our biggest moment of the year would easily have to be our 3-0 win against Owasso on our Senior night. Going in to the match we were not expected to win, not by a long shot. However, our girls turned it on for that match. They came out with a vengeance and something to prove for their last home game of the season. They took care of business and got the huge win over our cross town rivals. Next was the Regional Tournament. Again, not expected to win or do very well in it, but our girls came out fighting from start to finish. In the end, we did not get the win but they gave everything they had that night in a 5 set nail biter against a solid Westmoore team that went on to upset the hosting Bartlesville team that had been making waves all season. All in all, regardless of our record, I am extremely proud of our girls and what we were able to accomplish. Each year they continue to grow and improve the path for the future of our program. I am excited to see what that future holds for us in the coming years!

Strength and Conditioning

Our development program is divided into Fall, Winter, and Spring Sports offseason . Each has different progression for different times of the year. We do this in order to address practice schedules and “peak” certain qualities heading into their sport season. Currently, the weight % is higher and the reps are lower for our winter sport athletes. This is due to the season starting soon. Using lower volumes are important due to the increase in volume from their sport but it is also crucial to keep intensity high so strength adaptations are not detrained. As with our spring sports the volume is higher due to being further away from season so we are wanting to drive certain adaptations from higher volume. We will go over in more detail of how volume and intensity play a major role in strength and conditioning in future newsletters.

National Signing Day / National Letter of Intent Update

You may have heard that the NCAA has recently eliminated the National Letter of Intent (NLI). While this may sound like a big change, not much is actually changing for the student-athlete.

Binding written offers of financial & athletics aid will now replace the NLI. Once signed, other colleges are prohibited from contacting the student-athlete. Signing period dates and National Signing Day will remain the same.

This year's early signing period for all sports except football begins on Wednesday, November 13th. Join us in Big Whitey at 11am for a National Signing Day Ceremony to celebrate our Spartans committing to compete at the next level:

Brennen Galligan - Baseball - Connors State College

Brian Justice - Baseball - Barton Community College

Rhet Leu - Baseball - Northern Oklahoma College Tonkawa

Landen Wegener - Baseball - Redlands Community College

Luke Southall - Lacrosse - Rockhurst University

Students must be eligible to play!

Only 6 more weeks to the end of the semester. At the end of each semester student grades are made final and High School credit courses are transcribed onto their High School transcript. When students return in January their grades start over. That means students only have 6 more weeks to get their course grades where they want them before they become final. GPA is determined from these final grades. Students looking to attend a post-secondary school will have to apply for their program as well as any scholarships. Their GPA will be a very important number on those applications. If your student is struggling, make sure to check out the tutoring options below.

Bixby Football

Our sub varsity teams continue to excel. Both JV teams are currently undefeated, and our 8th & 9th grades will both compete for the coveted Frontier Valley Conference “brown plaque”. We are the only program in the state that plays three 8th grade schedules, three 9th grade schedules and two full JV schedules. Each Monday night Bixby Spartan Football has 6 football games. We appreciate our coaches and administration for juggling so many variables so that our players can be developed!

Finally, if you haven’t made it to a game, you are not too late. We have two regular season home games left, and hopefully a home playoff game. You can also stream our games on KREF.tv, and listen to them on 97.1 FM. Each week we also put out a coaches replay show on Youtube. We encourage you to get involved and support our great student athletes!
