Spartans,
For those who enjoy planning ahead, we are thrilled to let you know the 2026-27 BPS Academic Calendar has been approved by the Board of Education and posted on our website at bixbyps.info/calendars! We have also created two versions, one for staff and one for families. The family calendar is simplified as much as possible to display school days vs non-school days, while staff can see at a glance all of the professional development and collaboration days.

Due to some funding rules, the district cannot exceed 30 student school days before October 1st when starting a school year. This requirement currently determines the earliest possible start date for the school year.
- Teachers are required to work 178 contract days (including professional development days).
- Students must receive 1,086 instructional hours each year, as mandated by state law.
- Any instructional hours beyond this requirement function as “buffer time” or “built-in days” that can be used in the event of weather-related or other emergency school closures.
- With the current calendar, the district has the equivalent of three built-in emergency days before any adjustments to the schedule would be needed.
-
Recent legislation prohibits districts from scheduling or using virtual learning days unless the Governor has formally declared a state of emergency.
- Because of this restriction, the district has scheduled two school holidays—April 16th and April 19th—that may be converted to school days if we exceed our three built-in closure days. This ensures that the last day of school can remain as planned.
- Finally, we have slightly reduced the number of early-release Fridays to maximize built-in instructional time while still preserving regular PLC time for staff.
