Happy September, Bixby East Intermediate Families!

I hope you are all doing well! It was wonderful to see so many of you at last week's East Community Welcome Back Cookout! I hope you enjoyed a fantastic Labor Day Holiday Weekend!

We have enjoyed a fabulous first two weeks of school with your students! It has been so great to see their smiling faces and to hear all about their summer break adventures! During these first eight days back together, we have practiced our school procedures, enjoyed some wonderful classroom community building activities, enjoyed our first school-wide Rally, and have begun our learning! We are now ready to settle into our routines, continue that learning and continue that fun with our Great Expectations and Jostens Renaissance practices!

As we get set to do all of those things, we also want to make certain to remind you about this Thursday's "Parent Orientation Night!"

Parent Orientation:

We look forward to seeing you this Thursday evening for our “Parent Orientation Night!”

Please make note of the following event details:

-Parent Orientation Time: This Thursday, September 5th  from 5:30-7:00p.m.

-We will begin in the gym at 5:30pm (whole group) with our BEI Administration Team. During this time together, we will review various site details and procedures.

-We will release parents to their child's classes at 5:50p.m.

-Parents will follow their student’s schedule during the evening! That’s right, you get to sort of live a “day in the life” of your kiddo during this event!!

-(5th & 6th Grade Parents: Please see the schedule your child will bring home tomorrow, Wednesday, September 4th. This will help guide you through the evening; 4th Grade Parents, you will simply report to your child’s Homeroom Teacher).

-During your orientation sessions with each teacher, you will learn the classroom expectations and curriculum for the year!

This event is always such a fun and informative evening! We can’t wait to see you!

*Please also see additional general site information and updates at the bottom of this newsletter

Wishing everyone a Spectacular September!

Sincerely,

Wendy Truel, Principal

General Information & Reminders

Distance Learning Practice Day, September 27th! Please remember that we will have a district-wide Distance Learning Practice Day on Friday, September 27th. If you would like to submit a request for your child to check out a chromebook for this practice day, or for any other distance learning day, please make certain to submit this request by September 21st. See the following link for more information: https://5il.co/2ves7

Car Loop Reminder & Car Tag Information IMPORTANT: As we work to get back into the swing of things, please remember to always focus on student and motorist safety while in our car loop/parking lot! • Please allow room for buses to enter our parking lot • Please do not block crosswalks • If you are headed East on 131st Street waiting to turn into our campus, please make certain to stay within the yellow lines and not impede through-traffic. This will allow for two free lanes for others to use to keep the street clear, and will also allow room for emergency vehicles in the event of an emergency. • Please make certain to have your child’s car tag # posted clearly for staff members, and please be courteous of others and do not cut in line. THANK YOU!

Title I: Additionally, as mentioned in our Back to School Newsletter, we have been designated as a Title I school by our free and reduced lunch count. We are so fortunate to receive allocations to assist us in assisting our students. This means we will receive extra instructional services and resources to support our students and families.  We have a lot of great things in store for this year, from academic support to family engagement!!! We have an amazing Title I Math Teacher and two Title I tutors who will be serving our kiddos this year. (Stay tuned for more information on those opportunities).  We are also excited for the wonderful parent engagement initiatives this designation will provide for you, as well!

Gym Update: Our new gym construction will conclude in November! We will have a ribbon cutting event to showcase our beautiful new facility! We will share more information closer to our “grand opening” event!

Welcome from our School Counselor, Mrs. Ankersheil!

As your school counselor, I am here to help make this year fun, exciting, and successful for everyone. My goal is to support you in all kinds of ways—whether it’s making new friends, handling tough feelings, or finding out what you’re passionate about. I am here to listen, help, and cheer you on! If you ever need a friend to talk to or have any questions, don’t hesitate to come and see me. Let’s work together to make this year the best one yet!

Jostens Renaissance School! Positive Character and Culture Programming!  You may be wondering about the “purple flag” that is hanging on our flag pole?! Well, that’s because the purple team scored the most points with our relays, games and activities, during our Back-to-School Rally! We will celebrate our rally winners each quarter by hanging their team color's flag! (Our students and “staffulty” members are grouped into four teams: Team Orange, Team Purple, Team Red and Team Blue!)  Throughout the year, we will enjoy some new, fun team-building and culture-enhancing activities this year! We will participate in ongoing student and staff recognition opportunities and quarterly whole-school rallies, as part of our Jostens Renaissance school program efforts. (These opportunities and activities will be an additional layer of character and positive culture development, right along with our Great Expectations practices which are already in place).

With the incorporation of these new efforts, we have identified three primary Core Values which we will work to include in all that we do at East Intermediate.

BIXBY EAST INTERMEDIATE CORE VALUES

As esteemed members of our East Intermediate Student Body and Staffulty

We will  BELIEVE in ourselves and others

We will work to EMPOWER ourselves and others and

We will be INTENTIONAL in each of our efforts and interactions

to promote hard work, positivity, inclusion, and kindness.
