Dear EI families,

I can't believe how quickly our first quarter is coming to an end. Our students have settled into this school year with ease! The new MVP procedures are ensuring all students are safe in our hallways, bathrooms, and on the playground. Weekly Wrap Up assemblies are so much fun and we love celebrating one another with the Sparky Spartan Cards and earned points!

This year, our Student Council is doing our daily announcements. STUCO students are taking turns being recorded in our "News Room" and each morning teachers play the pre-recorded video announcements for their homeroom class. It is an excellent platform for students to develop leadership, personal growth and confidence, and foster a sense of community and school spirit!

I want to give a HUGE Shout Out to our amazing PTO and volunteers who helped plan, decorate, recruit, set up, sling color, DJ & MC, feed us, and clean up after the fun! It was a perfect day and awesome fundraiser! Students have until October 10th to turn in their donations and sponsorships!

In gratitude and service,

Lesa Moore

Daily routines and positive incentives matter in helping children grow both academically and socially. When students follow consistent routines—such as having a set bedtime, a morning plan, and a homework schedule—they develop a sense of security and confidence. Predictable routines reduce stress and allow children to focus their energy on learning. Alongside routines, incentives play an important role in encouraging effort and persistence. These can be as simple as praise, extra playtime, or a special privilege. Incentives help children stay motivated and remind them that their hard work is noticed and valued.

At school, we use incentives to create excitement and a sense of teamwork. This year, each grade will have the chance to earn points as a group, competing in a friendly way against other grade levels. Every grade will win something, so all students are recognized for their efforts and commitment. These incentives build school spirit while reinforcing responsibility, respect, and positive choices in the classroom.

This month, we are also highlighting the Character Trait of Respect. Respect is at the heart of a healthy school community—it means treating others the way we want to be treated, listening carefully, and valuing different perspectives. Families can support this trait at home by modeling kind words, encouraging good manners, and reminding children that showing respect builds stronger relationships.

Our Expectation Focus is: We will not laugh at or make fun of a person’s mistakes, nor use sarcasm or put-downs. Everyone makes mistakes, and it is important that students know school is a safe place to learn, grow, and try again. By choosing encouragement over criticism, we build a culture where students feel supported and confident to take risks in their learning.

A Note from Assistant Principal, Mrs. Brown

I’m Mrs. Brown, and I’m absolutely delighted to introduce myself as your new Assistant Principal! With 25 years of classroom teaching experience and 4 additional years in educational administration across Tulsa and Broken Arrow, I’ve spent my career helping students grow into confident, curious learners. I also had the honor of serving for 7 years as President of the Broken Arrow Education Association, proudly supporting and advocating for our incredible educators.

Education isn’t just my profession—it’s our family’s passion. I’m married to a high school Assistant Principal at Union, and together we’ve raised two amazing teachers and coaches who serve at Union as well. My daughter-in-law teaches and coaches there too, and our youngest son is an amazing sophomore at the University of Oklahoma. He captures the action behind the scenes filming for the OU Sooners. I’m a proud grandma to one spunky granddaughter and have twin grandsons on the way. We are a family of students, educators, and lifelong learners—and we believe deeply in the power of schools to shape lives.

At Bixby East Intermediate, I’m committed to building strong relationships with families, supporting our talented teachers, and creating a safe, joyful, and inspiring environment for every student. My leadership style is rooted in trust, encouragement, and teamwork. I believe in relationships before rigor, and I’m here to ensure every child feels seen, heard, and celebrated.

I can’t wait to meet you—whether it’s at drop-off, a school event, or just a quick hello in the hallway. Let’s make this school year one to remember, together.

Warmly,

Mrs. Brown   Assistant Principal, Bixby East Intermediate
