From the Principal....

Happy September CE families! I am truly LOVING the weather!

I cannot express my sincere gratitude for all of our parents being flexible and willing to try new things out especially our PK parents. These last two weeks I felt like our kids got into a routine quickly. As the year goes on we expect our students to follow our learn, grow and THRIVE!

As we go through this year's educational journey with your students please know we are a TEAM. CE is a place that students need to feel safe, show great character and excellence. CE is a Great Expectation model school. That basically means that our staff follows the guidelines (17 teaching practices) to qualify for this status. We are super excited about this model status. We've received the award 8 years in a row.

We are also implementing a new CE Way. It is our "rules for the school". It will be the structure in which we all treat each other. Students learned about these new guidelines last week and this week we are working on how to implement this in the classroom, recess, etc. The main points are Be Safe, Show Character and Model Excellence.

Central Elementary is a Title School. This means we get federal funds based on our free and reduced level. We do provide Title teachers to help support students during the day with pull out small group services. This is on top of what the teacher provides directly. On our website we have included all the newest documents for Title programs. If at any time you feel like your child needs more support in Reading or Math please don't hesitate to reach out to Mrs.Cook or Ms. Suleiman. Here is the website: https://www.bixbyps.org/o/bixby-central-elementary/page/central-elementary-title-resources-and-documents

On September 26th, we will have our distance learning practice day. This is a day where all Bixby students will be in distance learning to acclimate to distance learning just in case we have an extended time off.

Lastly, our PTO is fabulous. Please take some time to volunteer in your child's classroom, PTO event, committee, etc. A lot of planning and coordination goes on behind the scenes to keep events going and successful. PTO has a Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/bixbycepto

Thank you so much for keeping the routine and procedures set in our carlines. Please know it gets faster!!!

A few reminders:

  1. Have students ready to go when the car stops at the final destination. Backpacks on, good-byes given, etc...

  2. Please practice fast good-byes with your students especially the little ones! :)

  3. Our first early release is 9/5 please be aware there WILL be a lot more traffic.

  4. BEWARE--- do not use Bixby, Main or Stadium to cut our line. Buses use Bixby St. and if you block the street it causes them to be late. You must follow traffic laws and any streets other than what is designated causes traffic back up. Police have been monitoring when available due to the blocked streets.

Attendance

Each day, we look forward to seeing your child! Students do well with consistency and structure of routine. Research shows that student attendance is an important factor in academic success.

To help, please be sure your child is on time and try to schedule any appointments, family activities or vacations for after school hours or non-school days. If your child is sick, running a fever, throwing up, etc, please inform the office and your child's teacher so attendance can be marked correctly. For students with 3, 5 or 7 days of absences, district letters will be sent to parents.

Being present each day at school makes a positive difference in your child's growth!
